My guess is the scraping noise if made by the horn contact, a springy bit of copper that rubs against a metal track on the shaft as the wheel turns. A little electrical grease should solve it ... but when it wears out, as mine is beginning to do, I'm not sure what we do. Taking the wheel off is easy and there are numerous posts on the subject. Basically, you just pop off the plastic horn switch cover and unscrew the big nut you will have exposed, then pull the wheel off. No need for special tools.

Good luck,

Hi. I have a steering wheel the makes a rasping sound when it turns. It sounds like it is near the connection between the steering wheel itself and the steering wheel shaft. Sounds like the bearings need grease or the seal has ruptured. How does one get the steering wheell off to check?

Thanks, Ralph Channell 90 White Westy Moraga, CA
