Has anybody had a problem with the 1,9 WBX in an 1985 GL.. where the left bank driver side engine just does not work right. Time is perfect, fuel and spark... but number 3 cylinders plug turns black, number 4 hardly turns at all... like there is not much going on in the cylinder. Fuel pressure has been checked, injectors moved from the left bank to the right, and back, new plugs and new wires. Grounds cleaned many times, even double ground straps. Basically it is throwing raw fuel into the muffler where it is burnt. Mileage is around 8 mpg. It has destroyed a new muffler. The right bank appears to be working normally.

The cylinder pressures are for number 3 is 155 pounds, and cylinder 4 is 168 pounds. This was a running engine, that was taken out for a Subie conversion, then put in my van several months later. The original engine wiring for the new engine was kept, along with ECU, Idle adjust etc, all electrical components and wiring. Evidently there is something I have not tried, but as I look at it, only the valves and valve cover is all that is left on that side that has not been checked.

Dave is trying to help me with this, I know he must be about bald, just scratching his head... any ideals would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance, Lyle Lathem 1985 Vanagon GL Quinlan, TX
