You need to wait for the lifter to bleed down. After the engine starts, the lifters will adjust. Dennis -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Nathaniel Poole Sent: Tuesday, November 14, 2006 11:51 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Valve confusion So I'm slapping my 2.0 AC together and adjusting valve lash, and I'm sure I'm misunderstanding my Bentley (I would double check my Haynes manual, but a squirrel chewed off the page I need -don't ask). From what I understand, it says to adjust the screw against the valve stem with piston at TDC, and them screw it in 2 more turns. What this accomplishes is it pushes the valve open. Why would a lifter preset have the valves open during a compression stroke? What am I not getting? Nathaniel |
