Hi Jeff,
My thoughts:
I would be VERY skeptical on that one... It is so vague as to be
useless. The "My client" reference is particularly spooky. Don't ship
anything until after the money order clears the bank: that should
take about 8-10 business days. It would be a very good idea to talk
to your banker about it BEFORE you deposit the money order.
MY MONEY ORDER STORY:
My dad purchased a beautiful 1967 westy in Seattle a couple years
back... and brought along a money order for the total sum in US$.
"It's as good as cash", says our bank here in Toronto. Unfortunately
the owner's bank in Seattle didn't agree: they wanted 5 days to clear
it. Since the seller had other buyers in line, Dad had to come up
with another payment method, (Western Union) and it wasn't cheap. And
then to add insult to injury: By the time Dad came back to Toronto
and cashed in the money order the US$ exchange rate had dropped its
value by several hundred dollars. Despite a nasty letter to the bank,
none of the expenses for the transaction were recovered.
Happy Trails,
Greg Potts
