Do virus/spyware scan. If you don't have anti virus software running get some....

I'd recommend Zone Alarm (Anti virus or full security suite which is what I have...has a firewall and anti spyware)

If you need something quick use something free like AVG.

Once you've done that and treated any current infections you may want to get a registry cleaner which cleans up the typical crud that accumulates in your registry by installing/uninstalling/normal use.

I use and recommend Registry Mechanic which isn't free but not terribly expensive.

If you run it unregistered it will find all the errors and repair some of them but not all. You need to pay and register for it to fix everything it finds.

...a registry cleaner helps keep things from becoming sluggish due to the junk it can accumulate.
