Be thankful - I've always had a hard time with that cord and have ended up breaking the outlet. When it's cold (and its always cold) the cord is stiff and the plastic brittle. It's also lower to the ground and more subject to crud/rust etc. I'd rather have a detachable cord anyday. Especially if you drive away with it still plugged in ...
