Hello, Volks!
Today my Syncro started a new noise the likes of which I have never heard discussed on the list.  Starting out in first gear there is a raspy, rattley noise that sounds like it is right under the shifter, or at least toward the front of the van.  Yet it goes away completely when I shift out of first gear.  Not at all present in any other gear, in any rpm.  It started suddenly and is present in 90% of my first gear starts.
  Could something in the drive-line need lubrication?  Any ideas?
