While the overpayment trick is a common component to these scams -

It is important to keep in mind they all hinge on the fact the non local

Check takes an extended period of time to be returned to your bank -

Specifically - beyond the normal time your bank holds a check to clear.

Your bank may give you the "all clear" after 8 - 10 days - but the

Bad check takes possibly up to 28+ days to be returned as bad to your bank.

And you are still held responsible regardless if the bank initially told you

Check cleared.

All of these Nigeria bank orders work that way.

So even depositing the bad check and waiting "8-10 days" does

NOT put you in the clear. [ lotsa bank fine print spells this out]

If the bad check is returned -[ no matter what the period of time ]- you are

responsible.

Lets be careful out there...
