Same thing happened when I tried (and thought I fixed) it on my odometer. That gold spiral spring kept me from going any further. I did a fix I thought would do the trick but it has not, so I will need to get deeper into it next attempt. That means getting past that spring to be able to completely disassemble the odometer mechanism to perform the other fixes I found referenced.
