The bearded Ol' Duff with his wool flop hat on to prevent his bald head chill and from reflecting and blinding other drivers, and Solarguard Wrap-a-round Polaroid sunglasses to prevent his own blindness - was cruz'in down the freeway, push'in his 88 Burgundy V-gon GL along at 75, when he spotted in the rear view a hot-rod Chevy pick-em up truck coming up fast on the left behind. Once a little closer he saw it was a threesome of teenage tomcats pushing the machine and looking for some action. . When they got along side and spotted the Ol' Duff there in the V-gon, they broke out in a lot of grinning at the Ol' Duff there drive'n the VW bus.

Now the Ol' Duff could see they had visions of the good ol'days of the hippies in the 60's driving the splitties and the loafs -- something their folks just told them about as part of the good history. These cats were only a gleam in Daddy's eye and a rapid heartbeat in Mom's throat back then.

As they cruz'ed by making monkey motions, the Ol' Duff tilted his head their way to acknowledge them, raised his left hand holding his Pepsi can as to toast their hot truck. Then with his left hand back on the wheel, he raised his right hand with first two fingers forming a "V", then folded his forefinger to tuck behind his thumb and extended the middle, ring and little fingers to form the shape of a "W".

Sharp kids - they recognized the "VW" immediately and gave the high sign in acknowledgment They hit the horn three times in acknowledgment, and yelling loudly, pounding the dash and the doors and grin'nin like jackasses eating briars, they accelerated on down the highway.

Kind of a neat impromptu happening. Cross generation communication was possible after all. Made the Ol' Duff's day!

Regards,

John Rodgers Ol' Duff , 88 V-gon GL
