That would be my main concern about switching *away* from AAA. And, that calls for a story:

We ran out of gas* (er, well, Diesel) near Cape Blanco State Park (South Oregon Coast). Oddly enough, a White Syncro Westy blew right past us, but they did wave. It was obvious we were have some sort of trouble ("hood" open, etc), but they didn't stop. Ok, on with the story.....

So, I moved around until I could get a good cell signal and called AAA. They had problems finding a service provider that would deliver Diesel in the area. Finally, they found someone in Gold Beach that would come out. That is an hour drive. There is a gas station that has Diesel less than 10 miles from our location. So, an hour or so later a guy shows up with a 5 gallon can, and proceeds to get about half in the tank, and half on the ground. We motor on down the road to fill up. All is well.

So, a month later we get a bill for a couple gallons of gas from the tow company. The "kid" didn't know AAA only pays for 2 (or is it 3?) gallons.

I called AAA, and had them tell the tow company they can go suck the 2 or 3 gallons of diesel the kid spilled out of the roadside soil. Took care of that problem.

*I have never, ever owned a VW with an accurate fuel gauge. (I owned, or have owned the following vans: 1965, 1971, 1977, 1980, 1982, 1983 and 1985)
