For Christmas I was looking to buy me some winter storage security for "Mellow Yellow" , my '82 dsl Westy. Checking out the local electronics stores I found that a good "Alarm" system can set you back $400 - installed. Hmmmm! Is the old gal even worth it? I thought. Then I recall that years ago I adapted a CB rig to transmit a 'buzz' type noise when any of the sensors were 'activated'. As far as distance was concerned, it worked better than any device on the market at the time. Not wishing to get into CB gear again, but having an FRS system on hand; I thought... why not go with the latest technology. Now, if I could get a relay to work an external mike input then I would be all set. Looking at my 'older' FRS radio, I do not see an external mike input but perhaps someone on the forum has done this or something better. I don't need to know if the engine bonnet is lifted, the window lowered, the engine started or any one of a dozen different 'options' available. These devices would seem to require a team of CIA electronics experts to fully install all the wires and sensors. In an effort to keep my Westy wiring simple, all I need is a motion sensor inside and that is simply a plug-in device. Has anyone come up with a simple alarm system that will transmit more than 100 yards and not costing an arm and a leg? If not, I will commence my own project along these lines. Thanks! David (82dslwesty)

P.S.: I did a search of the Archives with no luck.
