I agree that some things are out of the drivers control, but I'm not sure what those reasons can be. Every time the driver makes a decision, it's that decision that can get him/her and their passengers into trouble. Sure, you're trying to stretch a dollar to make it a little farther. Or are you being "penny wise, pound foolish?" If you run out of gas then it will most likely cost you more in the long run. You end up losing both time and money. I say it's part of our impatience that gets us into trouble. So if your gas gauge doesn't work, then whose fault is it that it doesn't get fixed? Not yours? Well then who's is it? Give me a break. It's your own fault and you pay the price down the road for not being better prepared. You don't have the money? Balony. You have the money. You just don't want to spend it on that. You want to buy something else that you don't need. It's all about decisions. Like ones that the unfortunate Mr. Kim made when he didn't want to take advice from the Forest service personnel.

I know this sounds callous but we all make decisions that can get us in to trouble or keep us out of it. But don't chaulk it up to bad luck when it really is about the choices we make.

I'll toss the soap box back out there for someone else to tear apart my blah-blah...
