Chris,

For things like that I use Craftsman impact grade (not the standard ones) "Bolt-outs". The standard ones require that you turn them with a wrench on the outside whereas the impact grade types have a 3/8" square drive and will accept ratchets and extensions.

The impact grade or even the power bolt-outs allow reaching into that "Cage" to remove messed up Allen heads.
