Previous net reading material, brought me to the idea that I could, at the very least, run a diesel blend, sometime in the future. True that's a far way off if it were to happen at all, though locally there is hope. I know that the University of BC has been doing some practical research with limited production of veggie fuel being used on their maintenance vehicles. This provides some hope though I'm sure there isn't a local veggie fuel supplier and very likely there isn't a blend provider either. I could be wrong on those counts. Haven't looked into it lately.

As for fuel prices, a quick search of local $'s shows:

95-105 Cnd/litre

Diesel 95 Cnd /litre

I'm not under a false belief that I would save money (locally) on fuel.

As for Subie VS VW diesel, there seem to be (as per one online paper "buy and sell") less possible donor cars than VW diesels. I haven't checked bone yards as I'd prefer to see/hear a running donor as opposed to cobbling *all* the parts together. I see the Subie as a great fit, and have read that they are quite durable, provide good-great (6 cly anyone?) HP gains, and appear to get decent fuel mileage. For me, I could live with less HP and I believe the diesel will get a little better mileage, given the same driving conditions, weight, and engine condition etc.

But dang it, now you're getting me thinking of the Subie again! Anyhow....

I'm not under the impression that the diesel is somehow "greener" in it's natural state. I was just combining my appreciation of the ( in this case) NA IDI diesels' simpler design, with possibly better fuel efficiency, and a glimmering hope of B20, or dare I say B100, being available in the future, somehow, somewhere.

Of course all I really want to do, is be able to drive my Westy with less guilt about contributing to greenhouse effect etc. You know, "have my cake and drive it too".

But that's another story......
