Subject: Auto Tranny - No reverse when cold

Recently purchased a nice (body/interior) Carat as a project.

Engine is seized and PO states the auto tranny won't go into reverse when cold...in spite of a rebuild less than 20K miles ago.

Don't care about the engine since I plan a Suburu conversion for it, but....regarding the tranny....are there any auto tranny Gurus out there? I know nothing about autoboxes...but I'm fairly handy...having done four previous Subaru conversions.

Wondering if this tranny can might be fixed with a simple adjustment, or does it need another rebuild/replacement...

Since the van doesn't run, is there any way to check out/adjust an auto tranny on the bench. I don't want to have to put the Suby in then test drive, etc....possibly yank it out again...etc.

Like to have everything good when I do the new engine install.
