Subject: DC area Vanagon party saturday

So, it looks like we're on in Rock Creek Park on Saturday, at 1:00!

Tom's lined up the site and sent directions - here they are again, in case you weren't paying attention:

Picnic Area 10 in Rock Creek Park, http://www.nps.gov/rocr/planyourvisit/upload/ROCRmap1.pdf Note the roads that are closed weekends are marked in yellow. If site 10 is taken, we'll head down the road towards site 9, and take the first one we come to that's available.

So, who's coming? Besides, I assume, Tom and Kim and me, that is. Karl, are you coming into the big city for this? Anyone coming from Pennsylvania, from the Buses-by-the-Depot crowd? Anyone out there in the Richmond area, Baltimore, the eastern shore?

Now one of my vanagon friends has told me that while men are able to line up party sites and bring their vans, they aren't so good at thinking about the details of parties. I think he's full of it, myself, but just in case, here's a few suggestions:

- bring some food or drink to share, please! We all like food. Alcohol is not permitted in the park, so I assume you know from long vanagon experience how to handle that. But we will be driving out of this party and on to our evening events, so use your judgment...

- shall we have an informal and very low-cost holiday gift exchange? If there are enough people, such things can be pretty amusing. Funny gifts, vanagon gifts, edible gifts, for whichever holiday you prefer - the Ides of December, the second night (or first day, if you prefer) of Chanukah, nine-days-to-finish-your-shopping, six-days-till-the-winter-solstice, ten-days-till-Kwanzaa, 766-more-days-of-shrub-in-the-White-House, anything you like! Re-gifted items are fine. The less you spend, the better. The funnier, the better. Or the tastier the better. Wrap it up (a brown bag is fine), in case surprise seems in order!

Please come, folks!

Joy
