Subject: Well, well well... the fuel pump!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed

Several of you have helped me diagnose a quitting and hard-starting fault in my 90 Carat. After messing with it the last couple of days, I finally got the courage to actually take it beyond the neighborhood. I started it up and as it was idling I noticed a sound I've never heard before. I suspected the fuel pump was making the buzzing sound, so I put my ear to the floor over the body rail where the pump mounts. Loud and clear, the pump is complaining.

I didn't suspect the pump or filter because they were replaced at about 15K or maybe as much as 20K miles ago. The OEM pump lasted for about 180K. Should I write the vendor about this, or just bite the bullet and buy another aftermarket pump? Is this something on which I'd be better going to the dealer?

Thanks for your advice,

Jim
