VW didn't include a "tach wire" in the Vanagon harness until around 1985 when they changed the cluster over to using a Tach in place of the Analog Clock (BTW - the color is green). I'm getting ready to change my 84 Westy cluster to an 85 w/Tach shortly, and I'm gonna have to string a separate wire back to the negative side of the coil to make it work (I have a four-wire roll of trailer harness I'm gonna use in case I wanna install future "worry" gauges sometime later on). Plus, I've gotta switch the position of some of the wires at the cluster connection as per the archives to make sure the other stuff in the cluster works too! I've had the cluster for awhile, just been too busy to get around to it. Since I've no plans for the upcoming couple of 3 day holidays, I guess now is about the time to tear into it. Gotta do maintenance beford heading to Havasu for BBB XI, while I'm at it.
