FOR SALE
1985 Vanagon GL Westfalia full camper (2000$ OBO)
Located in south Kansas City 64114
contact info: kfcnitro@gmail.com I will email serious
inquiries phone number when appropriate
150,000 miles (more or less, odometer broke at 120xxx
couple years ago)
The good: Starts right up no problem, it was my daily
driver for 5 years, originally a cali car (LA, come
drive it if you like. Body is in good shape,
only a few dings here and there, under carriage is in
good shape, surface of
rear wheel wells are starting to rust where paint has
been
chipped off, very repairable. Overall body
is in good shape, poptop is in good shape, newer
seals(5years)
and good canvas with only a couple pin holes, zip out
mesh windows.
All camping stuff is working, sink, stove and fridge.
Fridge is hard
to start unless you warm it up on 120v first, then
runs fine as far as
I know, fridge has all shelving and ice trays. Comes
with middle seat and
middle console, and many spare parts, I parted out a
van a couple years
ago so all that is left of that goes as well, many
extra bolts nuts and
this and that, extra engine lid, you get the picture,
most of the stuff
I can remember is listed below. Van is equiped with
A/C, although it is not
hooked up, I did not put the compressor back in after
the head job as it
was not compressing any more, was going to replace it
and never did. The system
worked i.e. fan blew air and all that, just not cold
air, hoses and everything
are still there, just the compressor is missing. The
compressor is included
in case you want to rebuild it, I have a spare compr.
as well that also does
not work.
The bad: Last trip I took this van on was around a 3
hour trip there, 3 hours
back. I had no problems and noticed nothing wrong with
it at that time, this was
in september 2006. I drove the van every day up till 2
weeks ago, it is still very
drivalble today. The problem is that when you get on
the hiway, the engine
smokes pretty good, a light gray smoke, does not
remind me of coolant or oil, and
I would hate to imagine it was both! But that is the
bad for you, I have no idea
what it would be, oil blow by? The engine never
burned/used oil at all,
cracked head burning coolant? I have no idea...
It does not smoke as long as you don't drive over 50
miles an hour, I would feel
comfortable driving this van around KC all day long,
so long as I did not have to
hit the freeway. This would make a nice cheap westy
for someone with a mech. apptitude.
It is brown with a tan pop top. I have the title. I
am trying to
be as honest about the van as I can, I don't want
someone to feel ripped off if
they buy it, but it comes with no warranty/as is.
Overall this is a good van for
the price. The only thing I was planning on doing to
it in the next year before the
engine started smoking at speed was to replace the
front ball joints as it is a bit out of alignment,
but still very driveable.
