Last night while driving (soberly) home after last call, I was buzzing up the Jones Falls Xpwy. At one somehwat blind curve, traffic had come to a sudden grinding halt beyond the curve for a pretty bad accident. I mashed on brakes like everyone else and managed to stop the Brick just in time. I watched in my rearview as the driver behind me got the same rude surprise I did. He was moving way too fast and I thought I was a goner. However he deftly swerved at the very last moment to avoid me. It was some pretty flash driving considering he was on his cell phone.

He and I rolled down the windows and talked about how narrowly he had missed me. He said, "I thought I was going to cream you and that would have killed me - I have a Westy myself." I flashed him the Vdub salute and commended him on his lightning reflexes.

It occurs to me now that he might've done even better if he wasn't on his cell phone...
