Hi Nathan,

It isn't necessary to remove that part to inspect the slider track. Once you remove that support you are setting yourself up for an hour's worth of frustration as you re-align the door so it shuts properly. Don't remove that part unless absolutely necessary.

In my experience, a bumpy, noisy door is caused by one of two things. It's either grit & dirt in the track, or it's pits and holes in the track caused by corrosion.

Rinse the track area thoroughly with degreaser. Clean the track and roller with a rag. Inspect the track. If there are pits or rust holes, you need to deal with them. Smaller spots can be dealt with using JB-weld. Larger holes will require welding or other remedies. 90% of track wear is to the front , so there's no reason to need to remove the door to deal with it.

Test the door. If it slides better, regrease it and enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done.
