Subject: Refrigerator--Propane Jet Cleaning

I pulled a 25 year old fridge out a burned up camper just b/c it was there (I have a 91 fridge so don't really need it).

Anyway, I wanted to test it after I got it. I plugged it into 110 in my living room which stays 65-70 degrees. On max, it got down to 34 degrees overnight, so 10 hours or less. I bought a propane hose/regulator and hooked it up and it only went down to 50. Left it on another day, still 50. Removed the cover on the burner box, and removed the needle jet and squirted water through it until it seemed to be squirting a little better. Put it back together, ran it over night and it went down to 34 degrees, same as it did on AC. Temp was measured at the bottom and ice crystal formed on the cooling fins.

My guess is this is the most common cause of poor propane performance. It is a very small hole for the needle jet and over time, it must get a little crudded up. We used to do the same thing on our motorcycles from time to time, cleaning out the jets. Interesting, looking at the flame, I really coulldn't see any difference, but listening to the exhaust vent, it was noticably louder after cleaning.

So if your fridge gets colder on AC than it does on propane maybe this would work for you.
