I have to chime in on this: I have 187,000 on my AT and the only problems I've ever had were two different mechanics on two different occasions overfilled it after servicing. Both guys argued that overfilling wouldn't make it slip; both times the tranny was fine after they got the fluid back to the proper level.

Standard.

I've put 131,000 miles on our 84 with no problems whatsoever, barring a new clutch at 85,000, soon after we got it. Changed the fluid once & I should do it again, I guess. Way too much to do these days.

A sample of one.
