I'm sure there is some truth to what's stated below - hell, I've said it myself manytimes, but there were those who said the new Mini wouldn't make it here, too small. when I went to buy one there was an 8-month wait. It's selling well - niche market, but selling well.

With the amount of baby boomers retiring in the next 2 decades, the RV market will likely grow. Van based campers might be a small market with proper marketing and offering something unique and cool to own (i.e. Mini) there would be a (niche) market.

Generations eschew what their parents drove for the most part, (partly why SUV's are more popular than min-vans) an RV alterative could be quite popular with "active retirees"

"In speaking with a VW sales manager, he says that VW won't import the California here because for what they cost, most Americans would rather buy a (bigger) RV instead of a van based camper. I think that when the Vanagon Westys were on the market here, there wasn't nearly the variety of RVs available as today. The price of fuel must also have something to do with the popularity of van based campers in Europe."

Wondering if there is anything we could do to bring these to this market? Do any good to write letters? Seems like VW has pretty much abandoned this market here. Not that I could afford one, but if I start saving now... hmmm??
