Subject: Almost sold my Westie......(long but only slightly "ranty" --- ;^)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

Yah, so I was involved in a 4 vehicle accident tonight. Guy in front of me locked em up, swerving his rear running into the guy in front of him. I hit the "locker" just after a fellow behind me hit me. (he took off after we three pulled over. And a Eurovan owner at that!). I swear I wouldn't-a hit the truck, or at least not that hard, if Euro-hit-and-run dude hadn't hit me. Regardless, not a good scene for my Honda Accord. Hood crumpled way back, (funny thing. Air bag didn't go off. Guess bumper has to be hit) RH lights toast, rad pushed in, smelly, rubby sounding engine ...... sigh. Well at least I only have a sore back/neck. And a comprimised car. F**k. Anyhow.......

At one point, as I said "glad I wasnt' in van", I promptly thought: "sell the van". "You don't want to be hit in that". But then common sense set in as I reviewed the whole scenario. Sure my driving skills could improve. Who couldn't stand to benefit from that. Moreover, I ran the numbers of how many times I've been in an accident, or even come close to being involved in any accident. In my car or someone elses. Very few. Hell I kinda laffed when I realized that I didn't even know how to approach making an insurance claim. (it's been that long. the only claim I ever made was for a break in) Anyhow......

Soon common sense prevailed. And because I have this love (some would say a crazy kinda love) of the Westy, and because I realized that in fact my van bumper would have lined up with the trucks steel tube bumper had I been driving it (and less damage resulting), I decided to keep the van. Plus I will keep more room around me not just when driving the van, but all other cars too.

Thanks for "listening",

Neil Nicholson. 1981 Air Cooled Westfalia.
