What really sold me on Subaru engines (aside from driving a Vanagon with one!) was this 1989 SAE "White Paper" that talks about the engine design etc. Everything Subaru did made a whole lot of sense, especially their cooling system....

Anyway, the document below is 18 years old but still a great read...
