well '85 was the first year for the padded dash and velour interior and capt. chairs w/ armrests on the westys (barring the special '84 wolfsburg edition westy)

all vanagon westys since 1980 had carpet and swival seats.

usually ASI aka Riviera campers were converted from base model vanagons during 80-83.. then 84 up they were converted from 7 pass GL's..
