I'll say that in my work on boats, lime is/was used as a volume enhancer, polyester resin + lime= cheap putty, good for some applications like filling voids. Talc also a volume enhancer but absorbs water, Talc is alos Bondo's main ingredient. IN the below formula this would hold moisture in supension which adds mass to the product. MY two cents. The latex is the binder and presumably the mica - being a relatively inert mineral -adds body. Both the Lime and Talc would be readily ionised in H20, but in latex? Isn't it a long chain hydrocarbon? Any chemists out there? Don't see a magic formula hidden here. They claim that the material converts vibration (kinetic energy) to heat. In other words it stretches. Sounds like the latex is doing all the work, like painting latex rubber on a drum head. Maybe the other stuff keeps it from peeling off. At first glance it would seem like you could get the same effect with layers of cheap latex paint mixed with an inert thickener. Like talc? Nathaniel
