I've been following the "jailbar" discussion with some amusement. I picked up a set awhile back along with a curtain set out of a Vanagon Jim DiGennaro was scrapping. I believe the original purpose of the jailbars was to hold the rear curtain in place against the back window, especially when the deck lid was open, as the aluminum bars seemed to offer little protection to the glass from heavy objects. I got the bars and the curtain set for $20 dollars. Just goes to show how things have changed in ten years. After letting them sit in my basement for sometime, I finally installed them in my '90 Basic Vanagon (originally owned by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts) along with the non-original Westfalia side table interior and curtains. Probably blasphemy to the purists, but it works for me. Dale Ward LiMBO Club House Keeper |
