When I had a 79 loaf with engine mods, I mounted the sending unit"ring" on the #3 exhaust stud and figured I'd rather have it read high than low. The added benefit I go was that there was instantaneous change in the gauge when climbing hills and running down hills. Other sending unit locations were nowhere near as reactive. Highest I ever measured there was 450 degrees F and that was a 7 mile 7% grade with 2 big canoes on top in the middle of July in Southeast Tennessee. Remember, that Gene Berg said(before he passed on) if your pyrometer cost less than $900, it wasn't accurate enough. DM&FS
