I went through this a year and a half ago. By chance, I happened to see a crack in one bracket before it fell off entirely. Frank/Stebro sent the thicker brackets without any delay or problem, and I pulled the muffler myself and had it welded locally for $15. The guy did a beautiful job and placed the new brackets exactly where they needed to go. I was so happy I gave the welder a $5 tip, and I still thought I was getting a deal, considering what could have happened. Regardless of the gasket problems I've had with the Stebro muffler, the bracket repair went luckily and smoothly for me. I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't noticed the cracking bracket and the muffler had fallen off.
