Mike - Back during the Bad Old Days of the Cold War, I was stationed even farther from any thing than you currently reside. It is gone the way of many military bases now, but in the day, I was at Loring AFB, up at the northern tip of your fair state. We used to think of Houlton as the first stop back on the road to civilization...! It was the first gas stop available after Presque Isle! Ah, the memories of south-bound I-95...
We used to have a phrase to cover this situation: "Happiness was Loring AFB... ...in the rear-view mirror." Suitably altered for YOUR favorite location, it can serve for anywhere.
