They do not use the existing holes but clip inside the wheel well. The original ones were discontinued by VW a while back and are no longer available. At some point they may surface again (the original tooling for the rubber section still exists, but so far the tooling for the metal half is apparantly MIA), but if it happens at all, it won't be anytime soon or particularly cheap. So the South African ones are the only bet. They do work well.
