I'll chime in here with this observation. In 12 plus years of driving a Vanagon Westy ('85 and now '90) the only time I had to call for a tow truck from the side of the road was when I rolled (and totaled) the '85 and that was my fault, not the vehicles. I've had my share of problems with the '85, very few with the '90, but was able to drive home or continue with the trip in all cases. And only one stop in a shop on a trip, to fix a problem that existed before I left home but didn't have time to correct before leaving. All in all a better history than I would expect from a pair of vehicles getting a little long in the tooth... |
