I was just about to post this and ya beat me to it...! I got mine in the
store, fwiw. Installation was straightforward and it fit right. I don't
think it actually 'controls' an iPod or any other mp3 player, but since the
mp3 player we have is also a USB flash drive we just plug that in.
The sound is quite a bit better than I expected it to be. Probably wouldn't
satisfy an audiophile but I don't know that audiophiles even acknowledge the
existence of mp3s.
So you can have your CD-R full of mp3s, your USB drive, an SD card, a
satellite radio and just about any other device (like our portable DVD
player, which also plays mp3s and .WMAs, or you can have your movie audio)
all hooked up at the same time and you just toggle between them.... if that
doesn't do ya I don't know what will.
I had intended to try to overcome any audio deficiencies with the
amp/speaker setup but now I'm not that worried about it, tho I still plan to
upgrade downstream. This thing is cheap, er... inexpensive enough that I'm
now thinking of installing one in the rear and having two systems (and
probably a way to switch them together if I want). I have little kids and
the last long trip we were on I wound up listening to hours of cartoon audio
while driving (Zoinks! Scooooby Dooby Do!). I'm not real big on headphones
for little kids- having a dual setup would give me some interesting options
and for 80 bucks to start with why not?
Cya,
Robert
