We need the vehicle to do what our current 2wd van does, which is to be a weekend hardware store hauler and occasional commuter/soccer mom bomb. But, it additionally needs to run up into the snowy hills and on old rutted logging roads. The A4 we looked at got ~18mpg, which is not something I'd want to commute with, especially since my diesel wagon gets 28 mpg and her diesel sedan gets 25 mpg. If they imported a tdi quattro avant, I'd be all over it in a heartbeat.
