I used the Bars Leak Head Gasket Repair product on my son's 91 325i BMW, we bought the car with 200,000 miles on it, and a badly leaking head gasket (white smoke out the tail pipe on the way home). Only paid $1000 for the car however. Well, I am pleased to report that $10 later and FOLLOWING the instructions 100%, it is leak free!!! Once last summer it over heated due to a mechanical failure of a hose line, so I hit it with the stuff a second time for good measure. http://www.barsproducts.com/product.cfm?id=41 You must be 100% sure that you have no coolant in the system when you add this stuff. By the way, the car 235,000 miles on it now.

Good luck with your limping leaking Vanagon.

Jack

I'm past 5 years since purchase at 130,000 miles. Had the yellow/green coolant when I bought it and I've added bars leak (normal size) twice in that time. After the bars leak stays leak free a couple years as a daily driver. I don't expect the bars leak to preform miracles but for $3 a shot; problem solved. 183,000 miles, original engine. Going STRONG and my heaters work GREAT (Wisconsin).

Anyone have experience with pushing leaking head gaskets to the limit? How long can one expect to resonably drive with leaking head gaskets? It's a tiny drip in the summer (about a susan b. anthony in size on the driveway after two days), and a small puddle in the winter. Can I keep adding coolant until she goes? Any dangers in doing this other than being stranded somewhere?

thanks for any insights.
