I'm not sure about Kool Patch, the brand is not sold here. It appears to be a Latex version of 'Stop Leak' or 'Bakor Roof Glue'.

I have used the tar-based product from other makers on houses for a long time with no failures.

Its a really simple product; black asphaltic goo with fibre reinforcement. It doesn't really dry, especially in the shade, and I expect it to be on the bottom of my vans for a long time.
