-----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Wetzel, Scott Sent: Monday, January 01, 2007 1:43 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: 82 Air Cooled Engine Swap Choices?

The engine in my van went to the giant VW junkyard in the sky in September and I have been weighing my options for a replacement. I have looked through the archives pretty thoroughly for potential engine swaps for my 82 Aircooled Westy and besides the Porsche 3.2 engine, I haven't found any mentioned. I know that there are several options for water cooled vans, how difficult would they be (and how expensive) to fit into my van? It is originally a California van and had A/C installed new so there are some plumbing lines running from the front to the back already. If possible, I'd really like to fit a more modern water-cooled powerplant (VW inline 4, subaru, etc) as more power, better fuel economy, better parts availability and getting away from the quirkiness of the California only setup would be nice. The potential of actually having HEAT also sounds good - especially for Montana winters!

Thanks, Scott
