Mufflers rust from the inside out. So the hole on the outside is just the tip of the iceberg as they say. You could try the muffler wrap as a stop gap but don't expect it to last more than a few months at the most. A new muffler would be the way to go for the long term and they are not really that hard to install. I have some new Ernst ones that are Aluminized and made in Germany for $149 if you decide to go that way.

'88 Westy, 54K miles, original muffler has a small hole (at least as far as I could see) about ½" wide on the cat end, near the base of one of the supports for the flange where the cat attaches. Any ideas for patching it? High temp epoxy? Welding? The muffler otherwise appears to be in pretty good shape with just some surface rust. Thanks, Jerry in Arizona
