Well, the worst that has happened to our 91 Westy is a coolant leak on a cross country trip from Sacramento, CA to Tewksbury, Ma. The flang that goes to the passenger side rear of the engine from the hose that traverses between the power steering belt was leaking enough to lose a pint about every 60 - 120 miles. This was about 1/3 way through Iowa. Stopped and bought 4 jugs of Autobahn coolant and made it all the way but stopping about every 120 miles to add coolant. Fixed it at the apartment with a new flange and gasket and some high temp goop. Hasn't given me a problem since.

However, I'd like to know what kind of coolant hose fixes people bring along for just-in-case?

I haven't really had any other problems and have been across the country and back to CA a couple of times since then.

Aircooleds have their problems. Just a different set of issues....
