The last time I had to remove that belt, I decided that it was just
plain silly to have to mess with the cooling system like that.
  I replaced the hose with a longer one (5/16" fuel injection grade if I
remember correctly), bent it back enough to avoid going thru the belt,
and held it in place with a couple of strong cable ties.
