But of course - they are French! I speak French well enough that native speakers have mistaken me for one of them, but they still weren't friendly in St. Pierre. I'd gotten used to the Quebecers and Acadians (and even their funny French), and to the Newfoundlanders, all of whom were delightful. So I chatted with the folks in St. Pierre as if they were friendly Canadians. Guess what, they weren't! :-)

:::and quite expensive (everything was priced in Euro$). The only nice :::person in St. Pierre was in the tourist office. Newfoundlanders and :::Quebecers were way more friendly. We will not be visiting St. Pierre :::again.

I'm glad I went, but it isn't worth the cost to go again. Besides, it begin France, everyone there smokes cigarettes, which meant I couldn't even go out to a nice (albeit expensive) French restaurant for dinner, because there was too much smoke!

St. Pierre is beautiful - but so is everyplace else in Newfoundland. At least if you like open space, bogs, and the sea! I think Newfoundland is what Cape Cod might have been like a hundred years ago.

Joy
