One thing that is interesting is that the VIN decodes as what the vehicle claims to be - an 88 non-syncro double cab with a wasserboxer engine. See http://www.vanagon.com/info/vin/ .

This was not the case for a few DOKAs that came in through Canada and were for sale in the US recently- those had VINs that had obviouly been lifted from conventional Vanagons - buses.

I would definitely run a carfax, though, and check the VINs on the vehicle carefully. Don't just look at the one in the windshield - check the one on the right side of the frame near the passenger door, and there must be others as well.

It is funny that the seller claims to have tried to ebay it, but I could not find it in a completed auction search.

If it checks out, not bad.
