Did you bench bleed the master cylinder?  Its always possible you got
a bad one from the start, especially if it is a rebuilt one.  I have
had a series of master cylinder mishaps over the years, until I got my
pressure bleeder.  If you use the pump method you must put a block of
wood or something under the pedal so you can't overextend the cylinder
too far into the bore.  One pump too far and you can ruin the seals.
In my experience it's very easy to ruin a new master cylinder.  But
maybe I just don't know what I'm doing ;-).
