Sounds like _exactly_ the same arguments Chrysler minivan proponents use - VW never sold the quantities (in the US), VWs are no longer made, etc. So it's your turn to answer what you obviously consider a fair and reasonable question - if the Vanagon/bus/combi is so good, why doesn't VW make them anymore? BTW, Chevy still makes vans, the current model is called the Express; just as VW has the Multivan.

The Type 2 was introduced in 1950. The Greenbrier didn't appear until 1961, and the Chrysler minivan until 1983. Those simple facts are all one needs to know who "invented" the van. The "mini" in Chrysler minivan is only in relation to the fact that the US vans had grown by that time. The Greenbrier, Dodge A100 (1964) and Ford Falcon van (1961) all bloated into "full size" vans by 1983.

Any consideration of which is "best" is entirely subjective, and not worth argument.
