My (then) 4 year old Impreza lost a wheel bearing at under 30,000 miles, and
wasn't covered by the warranty.  I called Subaru, and spoke to customer
service.  They suggested that I take it to my local dealer for them to look
at it, and they pulled everything apart before I was told that I'd have to
pay for the repair (or the inspection), so I was less than chuffed :o(
Despite the fact that this appears to be a known problem, Subaru refused to
pay anything towards the repair.

Call them, just don't get your hopes up.
