Tabe,

This is a known issue with the 2.5 engines. According to the several of the Subaru/VW groups, at about 75,000 miles it will need to be done. Subaru changed the gasket composition on the replacements and after the replacement, usually don't have any problems. They do say that the removal and installation torque sequence needs to be followed exactly or it will result in leaks soon after the replacement.

Hi All,

My inlaws have a 7 year old Subaru Forester with a 2.5L engine. It is out of warranty. It has around 100,000 km (60,000 mi) on it, and has "severe" head gasket leakage. (I haven't looked myself yet, so I don't know what "severe" means.)

Does anyone know if there is precendent for goodwill repairs of this type of damage on Subarus? (i.e. paid for by Subaru) Can anyone suggest a source of information on the internet?

Thanks!
