Home Depot, or similar store; Goo Gone and a few similar products were specifically made for this purpose. I have used them to take adhesive off of electronic test equipment. Made to be safe for paint, but when using the product, if vigorusly rubbing the old adhesive off over old paint, some paint can be rubbed into the paper towel used to remove the adhesive. I have used WD-40 for this purpose too, it works a little less well than Goo Gone. I think if you have to rub the surface hard/repeatedly to get the adhesive off either may take a little a paint off of the surface. There are some "orange" cleaners in the same catagory as WD-40 and Goo Gone, but there are also "orange" based paint removers which are effective for removing paint and stripping wood finishes. These are all very good products IMHO, I have even used the up-rated form of WD-40 as a cutting oil for light drill press work. ----- Original Message ---- From: Tom Salicos <Tom@SALICOS.COM> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Wednesday, January 10, 2007 6:28:16 AM Subject: Re: removing duct tape from paint..ideas? Have you tried WD-40? It removes tar pretty well. Doesn't hurt paint.
